When you think of eating a healthy diet, you probably switch to plant-based foods. Although, it’s essential to understand that many plant-based foods aren’t healthy for you. For example, white bread, pasta, and sugar are often high in sugar, which can cause an insulin spike and lead to weight gain and other health problems.
There are also plenty of animal-based foods that have been shown to increase the risk of developing diabetes and heart disease. Meat is a big culprit. Meat is high in saturated fats, which may cause high cholesterol and inflammation.
Red meat is high in nitrates, which have been linked to cancer. Additionally, meat is high in advanced glycation end products (AGEs) that cause inflammation, especially when broiled, grilled, roasted, or fried.
Red meat is a known health risk. Though, that doesn’t mean it can’t still be enjoyed. You might be able to enjoy red meat without any worries if you’re limiting your intake of it to just a few times a week.
If you don’t have the time to eat a healthy, balanced diet, you can still have your favourite dish at least once a week. Just make sure it’s cooked well—including all the bad stuff—and that you’re sticking to the right serving size.
